Making a Living Week: Regular Practice Workshop

One of the first workshops as part of Making a Living Week we started out by looking t found objects provided by Tom and Kristoffer we were asked to then draw any glyphs (individual letter or symbol) that we liked, we did this three times then re-drawing and sizing them to cut out of coloured paper. we worked in groups compiling our letters together on A1 sheets to create very dynamic and colourful posters.

Impression Studio: Project 4, Riso Show Spot Colour Ideas

Aswell as creating signage in the catalogue I have also been asked to come up with spot colour ideas for pages introducing the studios and projects. I started by using some mock ups billy made with lorem ipsum.

I tried making interesting spot colour designs just using 2 colours as with the final catalogue will be in only 2 colours.

Impression Studio: Anthology Project, Researching and Testing Distorted Typography 2

I also looked into the artist and typographer Gemma Obrien who makes alot of large scale typographic pieces with swirling patterns around and within the letter forms in a way that appears to form them.

I really like her work and wanted to try and create some pattern like hers but couldn’t really see how they could be used in my work.

At this point in the project each studio member was able to have an individual crit with our tutors who recommended looking at art from the psychedelic movement of the 60/70’s era. I looked into a few different artists including Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso and Wes Wilson who’s work also ended up being very influential on my final design.
