I wasn’t very happy with the way my final video turned out, the main problem was that whenever anyone watched it the video gave the impression that it had ended around 3/4 of the way through and I was having to tell people to keep watching. After finishing my research I put together my poster using the elements of my video including the sinister starbucks logo, the title and the market stall stripes pattern. I think that the outcome for this poster could be better and it feels more like a work in progress really although this would be viable as a for the projects final hand in I would like to come back to this and try to re-work it to a point im happier with. Another of the outcomes required for this project was to create a movie style poster to accompany our outcomes as a method of promotion for them. I began this part of the project by researching illustrated movie posters by watching the film “24×36 a movie about movie posters” a documentary film exploring the history of illustrated film posters and the move from illustrated posters to photographic based ones and how illustrated movie posters are becoming a trend once again. For the animation I wanted to make I took the time to create some illustrations using indian ink and a brush. I decided to inlcude images of market items, a tower block off of Roman Road, and sinister version of the Starbucks logo, a market stall wheel, paradee marchers, a balloon and a crying figure of a person. Before putting my animation together I wanted to look at some different videos to learn about how I could use after effects to create the proper effects to make the video look the way I imagined it to I also took the time to look at some other styles of animation other had made of dystopian narratives. After collecting all of this content from the different sources I began thinking about how I could create a final outcome for this project although initially I wanted to create a graphic novel I decided that I wanted to make an animated video instead so that the sound would be easily integrated with the images. After looking into dystopian narratives I wanted to get some more reference of the history of Roman Road to find some more content to work off of. I began by watching documentaery clips on youtube about the market made during the 1980’s and I was taken aback by the amount of different stalls there and the crowds of people all coming from around London to shop and socialise. Whilst looking through the different dystopian narratives I also began looking at the history of Roman Road and began to collect different sounds that and thinking about how I could use them.
I decided to look a bit more into emblems and logos related to the subject matter of my dystopian narrative I was trying to build so I looked at the logo development of starbucks to see how I could manipulate the logo to get my message of corporate world domination across. I also looked at the Ingsoc logo in the film 1984 to see how this could influence my manipulation of the starbucks logo.
I also looked at the logos in relation to roman road and also costa coffee to see what could contrast the initial ideas and possibly form new ideas.
After looking into the use of emblems in dystopian narrative I also wanted to look at some examples of typography and image styles used in dystopian narrative I started out with The Hand Maids tale a book adapted into a tv series. I saw that there was a strong focus on colour with this series and the main character wearing a white bonnet with a red dress is used as a uniform for her place in society shared by other women and other oppressive characters tend to wear alot of black. The colour of the protagonists clothes are also carried over to the title of the promotional material that I think brings alot of continuity to the promo material.
